Being a World Series hero is about to pay off for Juan Uribe. The infielder who provided a number of key hits for the Giants on their way to a title this season is closing in on a three-year deal with the rival Dodgers, according to ESPN.com.Uribe will make $21 million over the course of the contract, according to a subsequent report by FOXSports.com.
Uribe hit .248 with 24 home runs and 85 RBI in 2010, but perhaps is biggest strength is his flexibility. He played 103 games at shortstop during the regular season, but also spent 26 games at third base and 24 at second as the Giants dealt with injuries and poor performance from the likes of Edgar Renteria, Freddy Sanchez and Pablo Sandoval.
He's likely to fill a similar role with the Dodgers. Both shortstop Rafael Furcal and third baseman Casey Blake are veterans who may be better suited for platoon roles at this point, and Ryan Theriot and Jamey Carroll are the top options at second base.
