Everyone expects Derek Jeter to eventually re-sign with the Yankees this winter, but that doesn't mean the negotiating process is guaranteed to go smoothly.New York reportedly made a three-year, $45 million offer to Jeter earlier this week, and whether it was that offer or co-owner Hal Steinbrenner's subsequent statements that it would be a "business negotiation," Jeter and his agent Casey Close don't sound particularly pleased with the tone so far.
"There's a reason the Yankees themselves have stated Derek Jeter is their modern-day Babe Ruth. Derek's significance to the team is much more than just stats. And yet, the Yankees' negotiating strategy remains baffling," Close told the New York Daily News.
"They continue to argue their points in the press and refuse to acknowledge Derek's total contribution to their franchise."
