TORONTO -- For a good chunk of the summer, Brek Shea represented so much about what had been going right during FC Dallas' breakthrough season. The lean but aggressive midfielder made his MLS debut in the spring of 2008, shortly before Dallas hired coach Schellas Hyndman to rebuild the floundering franchise.
Like the team, Shea was a work in progress. He suffered a knee injury that fall that required surgery, and once healthy was tried at just about every position on the field except goalkeeper.
He played in 19 regular season games in 2009, starting seven and tallying four assists.
