When he asked about the difference between coaching in the NHL and the minors, Scott Arniel does not take long to answer"The biggest thing to me is the pressure to be in the playoffs," said Arniel, the new bench boss for the Columbus Blue Jackets.
"It starts Oct. 1 or whenever that season starts. In the American League, you usually have a month or so to get the young guys up to speed, get everybody going and usually see lots of improvement in the second half. You can't do that in this league.
"As you see, there's a difference of about three or four points within 12 teams (in the Western Conference). The gas is on right away. You've gotta be good out of the gate. You really recognize that, especially, in the West, you've gotta be good every night. You've gotta find a way to get a point. Certainly, the pressure to win, you can really feel - from the media, from the fans, from everybody."
