Yankees general manager Brian Cashman is taking the cerebral, cautious approach as he waits for Andy Pettitte to decide if he wants to pitch again in 2011, but other team executives aren't being so reserved now that Cliff Lee has signed with the Phillies."Plan B is patience," Cashman told reporters last week after his team lost out in the bidding for Lee.
Contrast that statement with team president Randy Levine's desperate-sounding words Wednesday on ESPN 1050 in New York, and maybe somewhere in between lies the truth about how worried the Yankees are about their starting pitching heading into the season.
"I go to sleep every night hoping that Andy Pettitte makes his decision to come back and pitch another year," Levine told the radio station. "That is his decision. He has not made a decision to retire. He has not made a decision to come back.
