Michael Koncz: Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley Not a Done Deal

Five-time titlist Shane Mosley was the main subject of conversation as the next opponent for eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao during last week's meetings between the Filipino champion, Top Rank Promotions CEO, Bob Arum, and Pacquiao's the fighter's adviser, Michael Koncz, producing a counter proposal that has been presented to Mosley's adviser, James Prince, for approval, Koncz told FanHouse on Tuesday.

Mosley emerged as the front-runner for an HBO pay per view televised May 7 bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas after Pacquiao, Koncz and Arum spent last week in the Philippines going over the proposals of the 39-year-old Mosley (46-6-1, 39 knockouts), 37-year-old WBO and WBA lightweight (135 pounds) king Juan Manuel Marquez (51-5-1, 38 KOs) and 27-year-old WBC welterweight belt-holder Andre Berto (27-0, 21 KOs).

But during a Tuesday morning return call to FanHouse from the Philippines, where it was nearly 10 p.m. on Wednesda, Koncz said that the deal is far from complete, adding that "It won't be until at least after I have arrived in the United States on Thursday" from the Philippines.

"When Bob Arum was here, certainly Mr. Mosley consumed most of the time during our conversations, and that would mean that he got the bulk of our attention. But that doesn't mean that we picked him. Most of our time was spent discussing Shane Mosley, however, it was also asked that Bob Arum return to Las Vegas with a counter proposal," said Koncz.

"We have yet to hear from Mr. Arum. I haven't reached out to him and he hasn't reached out to me," said Koncz. "It's the holiday, and we're in no rush. We'll speak to Arum shortly in the next few days and make our final decision probably by the new year."
