The Yankees haven't had much luck convincing newcomers to take up residence in the Bronx this winter, so maybe it's time to turn to someone who already knows the turf.
The Yankees have had "multiple conversations" with Johnny Damon about returning to New York in 2011, Newsday reports. Damon wouldn't have a regular job if he did come back, and that could ultimately be a stumbling block too significant to overcome.
However, if Damon still can find a suitable home as spring training draws nearer, he might just end up back in New York as a part-time left fielder and DH. Brett Gardner and Jorge Posada will be the starters at those two positions, and it's still difficult to imagine Damon spending the majority of his time riding the pine, so this could just be an exercise in spitballing (or Damon's agent, Scott Boras, trying to stoke the market).
