Cloud Routs Zuniga, Mayorga Gets KO, Solis Wins by DQ

IBF light heavyweight (175 pounds) champion Tavoris Cloud (pictured above, at left), of Tallahassee, Fla., scored a lopsided, unanimous decision over Fulgencio Zuniga (pictured above, at right) of Colombia on Friday night at the American Airlines Arena in Miami.

In victory, the 28-year-old Cloud rose to 22-0, with 18 knockouts in the second defense of his belt, dropping the 33-year-old Zuniga to 24-5-1, with 21 knockouts.

Cloud won, 116-109, 117-108, and, 118-108, respectively, on all three judges' cards.

Cloud hopes to target division rivals such as southpaw former WBC interim titlist Chad Dawson (29-1, 17 KOs), a recent HBO televised decision loser to WBC king Jean Pascal (26-1, 16 KOs), or else the winner of Saturday night's Showtime televised clash between the 28-year-old Pascal and the 45-year-old former world titlist, Bernard Hopkins (51-5-1, 32 KOs) that is slated for the Pepsi Colesium in Quebec City, Canada.

"I got hit with a head butt in the second round that caused a cut over my left eye, but Zuniga was a tough guy. I knew I had better skills, but he came into this fight in good shape," said Cloud.

"I only give my performance a 'B' tonight. I will tell you I took this man seriously, because I knew he would come to fight," said Cloud. "I want the winner of Pascal-Hopkins tomorrow night, or Chad Dawson if he ever decides he wants to fight me."



In another bout, former WBA and WBC welterweight (147 pounds) and WBC junior middleweight (154 pounds) world champion Ricardo Mayorga (29-7-1, 22 KOs) of Managua, Nicaragua, scored a ninth-round knockout over Michael Walker (19-6-2, 12 KOs), of Chicago, the latter of whom lost for the fifth straight time, being knocked out for the third consecutive fight.

"I showed tonight that I can still fight," said Mayorga (pictured above, at right). "[Michael] Walker thought he had something for me, but the outcome was never in doubt. El Matador is back."
