Aston Villa Require Far More Than Stiliyan Petrov's Comeback to Climb Table

stiliyan petrovAston Villa's players have been making all the right noises about Stiliyan Petrov's imminent return - but they are mistaken if they think the skipper is the man to turn around their season.

Petrov, now back in light training, is poised for his claret and blue comeback early in the New Year after a two-month lay-off with a serious knee problem.

In that time Villa have slid down the table and are now hovering perilously above the relegation zone in 15th position, just four points clear of trouble.

Gerard Houllier
's side have conceded 16 goals in eight Premier League games since the holding midfielder departed during the first half of the October 23 defeat at Sunderland.

"Stiliyan's return to training is massive," said young winger Marc Albrighton. "We've had a lot of injury problems but with the likes of Stiliyan, Nigel Reo-Coker, Fabian Delph and Steve Sidwell coming back, it's fantastic news for the club.

"It's brilliant. Everything is looking up. We want to continue getting results now after that Baggies win and climb the table."
