MIAMI -- There have been several memorable battles between the Miami Heat and the New York Knicks over the years -- on and off the court -- sparked by Pat Riley's abrupt departure from the Knicks and four consecutive playoff series going the distance. More than 10 years have passed since its crescendo and yet subsequent years have produced aftershocks from the dormant rivalry back when both teams were at the top of the standings.
Jamal Crawford, then with the Knicks, scored a career-high 52 points against the Heat in 2007. Dwyane Wade scored his career high of 55 points against the Knicks in 2009. And earlier that season, Wade scored 24 points in the fourth quarter to lead a comeback after falling behind by 16 points in the second half.
But those fleeting moments came and went with little to sustain the rivalry as the Knicks missed the playoffs year after year.
