Mancini Needs to Listen to Craig Bellamy ... and Send Him Packing from Man City

craig bellamy, cardiff city, manchester city, roberto manciniAfter replacing Mark Hughes in December 2009 there is no denying that it took Roberto Mancini some time to settle at Manchester City.

Yet last year's FA Cup victory certainly took some of the pressure off him when it comes to winning trophies and transforming Sheikh Mansour's gold into footballing silverware.

Mancini's job finally looks secure and it finally looks like he is the man in charge. And he could prove that even further by kicking Craig Bellamy out of the Etihad Stadium.

After a series of niggly disputes between the duo last summer, Bellamy finally packed his bags for hometown club Cardiff City and he has told the Western Mail that he wants to stay put. And Mancini should cut his losses and follow that to the letter.

To say Bellamy is a man of contrasts would be an understatement. He is a man despised up and down the terraces of the country yet has a conscience big enough to set up a charity for children in Sierra Leone.

He is widely viewed as an arrogant, sneering oaf; the worst kind of Premier League product, yet he is also routinely hailed by those he shares a dressing room with for his determination and willingness to give everything to the cause.

On top of that, there is no denying he can be an amazing influential player and a joy to watch. Yet his face clearly does not fit at City and it is clear that his time at the club is coming to an end.

Speculation remains that Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is interested in bringing Bellamy to the north-east but he clearly has his heart set on staying in Wales.

He said: "At present I expect to go back there and remain the whole year. And, if Mancini is still there, I will probably do very little.

"If City pay me my final year of my wages, then I'm sure I can go wherever I want. In that case, my first option would be Cardiff, to give it another go. But is has to be feasible, the financial health of the club is the most important thing."

At 31 and with two injury prone knees, Bellamy knows he is not getting any younger and it is now time for Mancini to release the player, draw a line under their fractious relationship and agree a deal that is the best interests of everyone involved.
