Letting Adam Johnson Join Everton Would Make No Sense for Manchester City

Adam JohnsonThe prospect of Everton making a loan move for Adam Johnson makes a lot of sense for the Merseyside club but allowing the England winger to leave would be one of Roberto Mancini's more bizarre decisions.

The Goodison Park club have yet to make any moves in the transfer market this summer but David Moyes is reportedly preparing a loan move for Johnson.

Undoubtedly, Moyes would be able to offer Johnson the regular starts that he is far from guaranteed at the Etihad Stadium.

And, in turn, that would certainly not hinder the former Middlesbrough man's international ambitions but it is often tempting to wrongly portray Johnson as some kind of Shaun Wright-Phillips figure at City.

In reality, Johnson started 15 Premier League games last season, coming off the bench in 16, which is only one appearance short of James Milner and 14 more than Mario Balotelli.

Johnson, 24, has certainly had his problems with Mancini, with his manager warning the player about his attitude at the start of last season.

The timing of his rebuke, after Johnson returned from a successful stint with England, appeared to stop the youngster in his tracks, with Mancini saying: "Adam is a young player, he can still improve a lot and I would like him to understand that sometimes it's important for a player to play for the team.

"He's a very important player for us but at the same time he can improve. Adam can have a top career but he has to understand he must work and he must think about football every day, and not other things.

"It's not just Adam; all young players, sometimes when they reach the top, they do not stay there.

"For a player like Adam, who has a good attitude and good quality, to arrive at the top but once he arrives at the top he must stay there because it is easy to drop behind again."
