Patrice Evra's Samir Nasri Comments Will Hit Arsene Wenger Where it Hurts

The Manchester United defender has revealed he has told Samir Nasri if he wants to graduate from being a prince to a king, he should ditch the Emirates for Old Trafford.

Evra's comments - which included the statement "I told him 'if you want to win trophies you have to come to United'" - came around the same time that Wenger was railing against clubs flouting the rules regarding tapping up of players.

And although Evra was clever enough to qualify his claims with conditionals like "if I were...", they will hit Wenger where it hurts - especially as he can do nothing about the United player talking to his man in private.

And they will sting the Arsenal manager because what Evra claims to have told Nasri is probably true: he will be more success at United than at Arsenal, unless Wenger adopts a different policy and spends large sums of money rather than relies on his own academy for first team talent.

Evra was effusive in his praise for United and unequivocal about what he thinks his France team mate should do.

He said: "Of course I would like to see Samir at United. I've talked a lot with him during the holiday and told him how great it is to play for Manchester United and how important it would be for him to become one of the biggest players in the world.

"He said that it's a privilege that a club like Man United want him, but that he has to think about his future and talk with his agent. I'm not Nasri, I'm not his agent or his dad, but I would definitely tell him to come to Man United. Definitely."

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson - whose club lodged a £20 million for Nasri last month - said last week that he thought near neighbours City were more likely to sign Nasri, who is resisting signing an extension to his current contract at Arsenal.

City are said to be able to offer Nasri more money, but Evra told the midfielder that trophies would count for more than a fat wage packet.

He added: "I told him the truth. If he goes to City, it's his choice, but I know, as a player, if I have Manchester United and Manchester City, I would go straightaway for United.

"It's a lot of things. It can be for the money, many different things. But I would prefer to go for the glory. I don't know how negotiations are at the moment, but he has a lot of clubs interested in him and he has to think."

All of which will be bad news to Wenger. Because he must know in his heart of hearts, that his best players - like Nasri and Cesc Fabregas - will be on their way unless they can be convinced they can enjoy success in North London.
