The world No. 1 carded a final round total of 63 to finish on 19 under par over the three rounds; the tournament was cut to 54 holes after most of Friday's play was postponed due to thunderstorms.
The victory, his sixth on the European Tour, cemented Donald's position at the top of the world rankings and was his third win this season.
Donald played a controlled round that contained nine birdies and he did not drop a single shot. It was a faultless performance by the Englishman who goes into the Open this coming week full of confidence.
He told BBC Sport: "It was a long week. Even though it was reduced to 54 holes, the week dragged on.
"This victory goes out to all the volunteers and ground-staff who worked hard to make this tournament possible. They had as much rain as they get in five months over two days.
"But this win was very satisfying and good preparation for next week. This is the perfect preparation. It doesn't get any better. I am going to be high on confidence. I played Royal St George's last week and I like the way it is set up."
Sweden's Andersson Hed was second thanks to his fantastic 10 under par round of 62, due largely to the preferred lies ruling due to the saturated fairways. Not that it should take anything away from his achievement. His 15 under par total was enough to earn him second place on his own.
