Carson Yeung's arrest this week has only served to create more uncertainty at Birmingham but the one matter that looks nailed on is the departure of Scott Dann this summer.Dann is emerging as one of the most sought-after defenders of the close season after Birmingham's relegation to the Championship, with a string of Premier League clubs queuing up to take him.
Blues have already rejected a package deal from Stoke for Dann and Cameron Jerome that would have eventually earned them around £12m.
But the Daily Mirror reports that Arsenal and Chelsea are lining up £10 million bids for the centre-half, with both clubs firming up their interest in the last few days.
Arsene Wenger's need for defenders is painfully obvious and the Mirror suggests that Dann is a top priority for the Gunners, and a cheaper alternative to Bolton's Gary Cahill, who will cost around £17.5 million.
However, new Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas is also ready to enter the chase with reports claiming that he is in the market for a traditional English defender who knows the concept of 'Row Z'.
Arsenal and Chelsea are not the only clubs expected to enter the auction, with the Daily Star reporting that Steve Bruce is preparing a second raid on former club Birmingham with a £10 million swoop for Dann.
Bruce has already forked out nearly £20m after landing Connor Wickham, Craig Gardner, Kieren Westwood, Seb Larsson and Ji Dong-won.
And now Sunderland are ready to test Birmingham's resolve for the 24-year-old Scouser, although Bruce has slight reservations about Dann's fitness after the hamstring injury that ruled him out for half of the season.
Dann's injury is still being held up as a key factor in their relegation from the Premier League and defensive partner Roger Johnson never looked so assured without him.
That is why Birmingham won't be hesitating in hiking the price up, especially if the likes of Wenger and Villas-Boas are involved.
