If reports in the French press are to be believed, Kenny Dalglish is about to get his cheque book out once more to make a signing that could be as importnant as any he has made this summer.Despite spending £100 million since January, Liverpool have yet to fill the huge gap they have at left back but that might be about to change.
According to Le Parisien, Aly Cissokho is on the verge of joining the Anfield club from Lyon and he is just what Dalglish needs to complete his summer rebuilding job.
Last season, Liverpool looked frail at left-back after the recently departed Paul Konchesky failed to shine while Fabio Aurelio's constant fitness battle prevented him from finding any kind of consistency.
In fact, Liverpool looked so short at left-back that the right footed Glen Johnson had to fill in - superbly - while Dalglish also turned to Daniel Agger and 17-year-old Jack Robinson to help out.
Robinson looks like a fine prospect for the future but Liverpool are not willing to demand a full season out of someone so young and they are quite rightly looking to Cissokho instead.

Although Jose Enrique from Newcastle United is also on the radar, Le Parisien maintains Dalglish and transfer chief Damien Comolli have identified Cissokho as the man for the job.
Gael Clichy was also on the wanted list until he opted to join Manchester City from Arsenal while Fabio Coentrao was also a possible purchase until he switched from Benfica to Real Madrid recently.
Dalglish may be concerned that Cissokho has no Premier League experience but that should not put him off.
The 23-year-old is exceptionally fast, loves to attack and is a superb crosser; all of which make him the ideal Dalglish signing.
Liverpool's manager has not hidden his desire to change the way the side are playing and make them a more fluent and attractive team and Cissokho can undoubtedly aid that desire.
In addition to providing his own talents, Cissokho will be able to link up with new signing Stewart Downing down the left wing to add width to Liverpool's attack and Andy Carroll in particular will be salivating at the thought of having two new expert ball crossers on the Anfield wage bill.
Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam, Downing and Alexander Doni have all arrived in the past six weeks and all look like decent signings.
But Dalglish knows his squad needs a few finishing touches and Cissokho could well be the man to help that happen.
