The Problems at FIFA Can be Traced Back to the Presidency of Joao Havelange

Filed under:

Sepp BlatterFIFA proceeds on it corrupt and shameless way. Yes, it was outrageous for Sepp Blatter to be re-elected to the Presidency un-opposed, but there was never a peep of protest from Joao Havelange, his outrageous predecessor, stayed in power from 1974 to 1998, his desperation chillingly chronicled in David Yallop's "How They Stole The Game".

In a football world where you see those two great icons of the past, Franz Beckenbauer and Michel Platini respectively embracing Blatter and voting for ludicrous Qatar for the 2022 World Cup, which should surely be taken from them now, what hope is left?

While the news from Italy, where a huge investigation is afoot into match fixing, involving to my sadness, even Giuseppe Signori, whom one so liked and admired as an exciting left winger for club and country for many distinguished years. Plus the fiasco of the Nigeria 4 Argentina (much below strength) 1 "friendly" with that very late and dubious Argentine goal.
