Injury-stricken British No. 2 Heather Watson fell to a brave defeat after being edged out in three sets by Mathilde Johansson.Watson, 19, took the first set but was hampered by an elbow problem suffered in the second set as world No 70 Johansson fought back to win 6-2 4-6 4-6.
The start of the match was delayed by rain but, once under way, two breaks of serve from Watson were sufficient for her to take the first set.
Watson, the 2009 US Open junior champion, suffered a setback when she was broken in game and she soon had to call for the train to bandage up her elbow.

It seemed to do the trick as she broke back immediately to go 4-3 behind but Johansson broke again and served out for the set.
The Brit was in no mood to lie down, however, and an early break put her in charge of the deciding set only for her opponent to fight back and win courtesy of her fourth match point.
