Why Louis Saha is Ready to Breathe New Life Into Everton

Louis SahaA top seven finish was considered a decent achievement by Everton particularly after they had flirted with relegation for part of the season.

But where would David Moyes's side have ended with a fully fit Louis Saha?

Despite his age, Saha remains one of the Premier League's top penalty box predators on his day so the 32-year-old's revelation that he has spent part of the summer sleeping in an oxygen chamber in an attempt to be fit and sharp for the new season will be welcomed by Moyes.

Saha was limited to just 14 league starts after being troubled by calf, ankle and hamstring problems during various stages of last season.

Yet the former Mancheter United striker still finished with 10 goals in all competitions.

Four of those came in the space of 64 minutes against Blackpool in February while he also found the target against Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham.

But with manager Moyes restricted with what he can do in the transfer market due to finances, it is more vital than ever that Saha has an injury free 2011-12 campaign.

With that in mind, Saha has been preparing for the gruelling pre season programme at the Camp8 rehabilitation centre in his native France.

It has involved sleeping in an oxygen chamber to boost recovery after training.

Yet it is hardly surprising that Saha has turned to such drastic measures after enduring a frustraing season on the sidelines.

After all, it was only last year that he was using leeches from Guadeloupe in an attempt to cure a chronic knee problem.

"I went to visit my grandparents in Guadeloupe and I put leeches on my swollen knees," said Saha at the time. "It swells up less and I feel fine now."

Unfortunately the leeches did not improve Saha's injury record.

But the player will be hoping a stint in the oxygen chamber will help him repeat the form he showed in 2009-10 when, despite failing to score in his last 12 appearance, he finished the season with 15 goals.
