Why Football is Growing Tired of Wayne Rooney and His Apologies

As if Sir Alex Ferguson did not have enough on his plate this week, the Manchester United manager must now get to the bottom of what is making Wayne Rooney so angry.

A stunning comeback victory at West Ham was the perfect preparation ahead of Wednesday's titanic Champions League quarter final first leg with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Or at least it should have been before Rooney decided to celebrate his first hat-trick for 15 months with a potty-mouth rant captured by TV microphones and broadcast live to an audience of millions.

Rooney marked his third goal by running towards a televison camera and letting fly a volley of abuse within feet of a cameraman.

Perhaps the England forward was releasing months of pent-up frustration when he was heard to use the F-word.

After all, it has not been a glittering season personally by Rooney's exceptionally high standards.

Yet his behaviour has ignited a media storm which threatens to overshadow United's preparations for Chelsea, and has sparked calls for Rooney to be hit with an FA ban and fine.
