With a Champions League campaign only just brought to an end and a top-four place in the Premier League still a target, a shift in transfer policy at Tottenham appears to have gone unnoticed. It is unlikely to stay hidden for long, as Spurs are usually one of the more aggressive clubs in the market and the summer window will soon come around, even if it feels like the January deadline has only just past.
For so long, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has targeted young players with good resale value. Look at Aaron Lennon and Gareth Bale, who are worth millions more than they were signed for.
But Harry Redknapp's two-and-a-half years at White Hart Lane, which has been littered with memorable moments, has seen him target experience over potential.
Granted, Sandro was recruited. But the key signings of the season were William Gallas, on a free transfer, and Rafael van der Vaart for £8million.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Redknapp will target a small number of quality players when the season comes to a close, rather than making big changes.
It means he could look at tempting Didier Drogba across London if Chelsea decide to sell the Ivory Coast striker.
"You have to keep your best players, add to them and make sure you're up there challenging every year," said Redknapp. "Why can't Tottenham win the championship? It's not impossible. If we want to maintain what we have done we need to improve again."
Redknapp attempted to buy proven quality this season. In January he was pushing for Phil Neville to arrive but was frustrated in his attempts.
Strikers who have shone on the world stage, such as Sergio Aguero, were also targets. It appears clear that Redknapp no longer wants Spurs to be a club that nurtures talent before selling on for a profit.
Redknapp suggested earlier in the season that he wanted to bring a player to Spurs before the start of the season that really would have made the difference, pushing them to be title contenders.
There were plenty of incorrect guesses. But Redknapp revealed recently to The Observer that he had actually failed in a bid to land Rio Ferdinand.
He said: "I can't ever see us getting Rio now. I was interested. Last year, I tried. I tried at the start of the season ... When he was on the teamsheet against Chelsea in the Champions League, I thought Man United had got a much, much better chance of getting a result and it proved that way."
