Reports in the French press suggest Gavin Henson's stay in Toulon may be coming to an end sooner rather than later, and it would appear he has nobody to blame but himself. On Monday, Henson was suspended by the French side for one week as falling foul of the club's strict conduct rules yet no word on what he had actually done had emerged from the French camp.
However, that has all changed - and it paints Henson in a seriously unflattering light that could prove to be terminal for his career in Europe.
According to reports in French newspaper, L'Equipe, Henson has been suspended for criticising Jonny Wilkinson and fighting with Australian scrum-half Matt Henjak in a nightclub following Toulon's win over Toulouse at the weekend.
L'Equipe is also reporting that Henson made critical comments relating to captain Joe van Niekerk.
And that means his stay in France is practically over before it has begun because there is no way that Toulon will accept such a blatant act of disrespect.
Henson only joined Toulon from Saracens in February in yet another attempt to re-launch a career that has veered wildly off the tracks.
And criticising the club captain plus Wilkinson, a professional respected the world over, is not going to be viewed kindly by Toulon's hierachy.
Manager Tom Whitford said: "Gavin has been suspended for one week and we are conducting an inquiry into the incident to establish what happened and the circumstances before making a decision next week.
"To be suspended from work for one week is not a decision we would have taken lightly."
That suspension means Henson is unlikely to play for the club again because there are only two games left this season and head coach Philippe Saint-Andre is believed to be calling for Henson's contract to be cancelled.
He said: "Gavin Henson did not abide by the rules of the club.
"We will meet next Monday or Tuesday to see what will happen in the future."
That is Saint-Andre in full-blown diplomacy mode because what is going to "happen in the future" is that Henson will be sent packing back to Wales.
And that means the latest gamble he has taken in an attempt to reproduce the form that made him one of the world's best centres five years ago will have spectacularly backfired.
