Matteo Manassero appears to have no problem living up to the hype that has surrounded his teenage years and after clocking up his second professional victory this could be quite a year for the young Italian.Manassero turns 18 on Tuesday and was able to celebrate early with a significant win at the Malaysian Open as his progress continues at a pace and, even after his birthday, he will have three years on Rory McIlroy and four on Rickie Fowler.
There are so many promising talents in the golf world right now but Manassero has already demonstrated that he does not just have the ability to shoot low scores, but also the mental strength to deal with being in tense situations on a Sunday.
His impressive showings at The Open in 2009 and last year's Masters will also stand him in good stead.
And Sunday's win means he already has more European Tour victories than McIlroy and there seems to be no limit to his potential.
In Kuala Lumpar he started with a 66 and a 71 but came on strong over the weekend with a 67 on Saturday before finishing at the front of a strong field with a 68.
"I had a really good week from the beginning," he told Sky Sports. "I didn't miss many shots apart from the second round when I didn't play great but I was still able to finish well and get in contention.
"I had a really good weekend and managed to get the win. I'm really proud of that and the next target will be winning another tournament and keeping the momentum going. It's going well."
