Chief executive Haroon Lorgat the rest of the International Cricket Council have been patting themselves on the back for the last few days. They are wallowing in self-congratulations over what Lorgat believes to have been "a magnificent and exciting ICC Cricket World Cup."
For that reason, he and the rest of the suits who run world cricket, believe the 50-over format has a long and prosperous future ahead and is not about to wither and die in shadow of the crash, bang, wallop world of Twenty20.
Yet, despite his confidence, a number of top class players are queueing up to retire from international ODIs, following the seven week slog in the sub-continent.
Daniel Vettori, the New Zealand captain is walking away to concentrate on Test cricket, Andrew Strauss and Kevin Pietersen are considering doing the same thing and a few others in the England camp have decisions to make.
The reason Lorgat feels the tournament has been a success is down to "TV ratings and attendances" and the final TV audience will exceed one billion.
For him, it is all about audience figures, TV ratings and advertising revenue. In a nutshell, it is about cold, hard cash and not whether the competition itself is a package world cricket can be proud of.
There has been little mention in his assessment of the competition about the high standard of cricket and thrilling games which have been on view.
