Hugo Rodallega, Charles N'Zogbia and Mohamed Diame were all on target as Wigan swept aside fellow strugglers Blackpool to keep their survival fight alive. The Latics started the day bottom of the table but climbed out of the drop zone with a ruthless performance for just their seventh victory of the campaign.
DJ Campbell pulled one back late on but a comeback never looked likely for the hosts, who slipped to a 12th defeat in Premier League matches and now face a real struggle to stay in the division.
They handed the Latics an easy start when Elliot Grandin and Stephen Crainey made a mess of a free kick on halfway allowing N'Zogbia to slide through for Rodallega to score.
Blackpool barely threatened and their task was made even harder when N'Zogbia broke past Ian Evatt and Craig Cathcart to add a second in first-half stoppage time.
Ian Holloway attempted to inject some life into his team with a treble substitution just before the hour.
But midway through the second half, Wigan scored a third when Diame's shot deflected in off Neal Eardley.
Late on, Campbell touched in from a Matt Phillips cross but Wigan held on for a well-deserved victory.
It was just the second time they have scored more than twice in a league game this season for a third win in 15 matches.
