Not every one at Manchester United is disappointed at seeing their name all over the headlines it seems...Once again, Sir Alex Ferguson was named by his peers as the Manager of the Year and once again it is difficult to argue otherwise even if Barcelona end up thrashing his side at Wembley at the weekend.
The Scot not only won the Barclays Premier League manager of the year award to commemorate the club's record 19th title but also received a special merit award to mark presiding over 2,000 matches.
Most of which he has won of course.
Ferguson did not attend the League Managers Association awards bash in London but did pass on his thanks via a video link from Old Trafford, where preparations for Saturday's Wembley date are in a critical phase.
"It's a wonderful honour," he said. "It has been a fantastic season for us in the most difficult league in the world. It has been such a competitive Barclays Premier League this season and I'd like to congratulate all of the managers, both in this league and throughout the divisions, on a job well done this season."
Everybody has been saying that this United team isn't quite up to scratch compared to the cream of the Fergie crop over the years but in the end the same could be said about those who tried to challenge for the silverware.
Arsenal faded when it mattered most, Manchester City were never really within touching distance and Chelsea, despite an impressive late rally, could not sustain the momentum to the end.
Carlo Ancelotti paid for the latter with his job of course and the Italian was praised by Ferguson for attending the dinner when he had every right to have caught the earliest flight to Rome. "Carlo, you are a fantastic man and you have showed great courage in coming," Ferguson told him. "Well done."
Norwich's Paul Lambert was voted the Championship manager of the year ahead of Queens Park Rangers' Neil Warnock, who had led his club to that particular title, after the Scot propelled the Canaries from League One to the Premier League in the space of a season.
Brighton's Gus Poyet and John Sheridan of Chesterfield were the League One and League Two winners respectively after leading their clubs to those particular titles.
