Agent Scott Boras said that Ramirez has been fully recovered from sports hernia surgery for five weeks. He is expecting Ramirez to sign a short-term deal with incentives.
The market for Ramirez could be limited, though. The Rays, who reportedly had interest in Ramirez last year, might be the best landing spot for him. The Rangers may also take a crack at him if they can't re-sign Vladimir Guerrero. The A's could use a DH, but indications are they wouldn't want to take on Ramirez's baggage, even at a discount.
Ramirez, 39, played in just 90 games last year because of a variety of injuries. He finished the season by hitting .261 with one homer in 24 games with the White Sox, and Boras said one of the problems was a sports hernia that required surgery after the season. Boras said Ramirez didn't even realize he had the injury until after the season.
