Newton played well in spring practice and settled into the starter's role in preseason practice, yet Chizik was unsure how Newton would respond in game conditions and perform within the structure of the offense.
"There were some question marks in there as to what he would be able to do and what he wouldn't be able to do," Chizik said Sunday night.
"It definitely has evolved over the last four months because we've been able to see in game situations what he's really equipped to do. And he's done that.
"It's not like we've changed the whole offense."
Newton just made it better.
Auburn (13-0) will face Oregon (12-0) in the BCS title game on Jan. 10 in Glendale, Ariz., after the pair finished atop the Bowl Championship Series rankings. Newton has been exceptional, to say the least, and he will most likely be the Heisman Trophy winner by the time he arrives in Arizona. Newton is the nation's top-rated passer and its 15th-best runner.
