Newton was reinstated with no conditions even though his father Cecil Newton was found to have asked Mississippi State for $180,000 in exchange for his son's services.
"I'm a person that did no wrong," Newton said. He maintained that, "everything I've done at this university, I did it the right way."
Asked if his father had done anything wrong, Newton said, "It's not for me to say but I know if I pick up the phone Cecil will be there. My love for him is unconditional. This type of situation can split a family but it makes us stronger."
In announcing his reinstatement, Kevin Lennon, NCAA vice president for academic and membership affairs, said, "Based on the information available to the reinstatement staff at this time, we do not have sufficient evidence that Cam Newton or anyone from Auburn was aware of this activity, which led to his reinstatement."
Newton is expected to win the Heisman Trophy Saturday, and he'll lead Auburn to the BCS title game in January.
