Brandon Prust and Brian Boyle Making the Rangers Tick

NEW YORK -- Ryan Callahan recalls Brandon Prust from their days as opponents in the Ontario Hockey League. "What I remember most about Prust," said Callahan, "was staying away from him whenever possible."

Brian Boyle didn't know much about Prust when the New York Rangers acquired him late last season as the smaller piece in a trade with Calgary for Olli Jokinen. If anything, Prust was adding to the competition for spots on New York's fourth line. "That's hockey," said Boyle. "Now he's a good friend of mine. You never know how things are going to work out."

Boyle and Prust have bonded as a pair of big-bodied forwards who have been given a chance by coach John Tortorella after years in the minor leagues or with limited icetime in the bigs. No matter who's the third man on the wing -- Ruslan Fedotenko? Sean Avery? a player to be named later? -- Boyle and Prust make up two-thirds of one of the NHL's most consistently effective grind lines.
