A summer's day is not a summer's day without a Cesc Fabregas update and The Guardian reports the Arsenal captain returned to training today for the first time after suffering a hamstring injury. It is still unclear, however, whether the midfielder will travel to Lisbon with the rest of Arsene Wenger's squad for the weekend friendly with Benfica.
Even less certain is the Spain international's future. Barcelona still want him and Arsenal still want to keep him although Wenger is clearly growing tired of the shadow boxing between the two clubs that has become an almost traditional feature of the close season.
The situation will be resolved one way or the other; it has to be. It's just that nobody knows how when the matter will finally be settled. In the meantime, Fabregas can at least concentrate on getting himself ready for the forthcoming season, whether that be in the Premier League or La Liga.
Aquilani still part of Dalglish's plans - for now
Alberto Aquilani's exit from Anfield maybe not as clearcut as expected with the Italian midfielder offered hope of continuing Liverpool future by Kenny Dalglish, the club'smanager.
Aquilani's time on Merseyside has been blighted by injuries and poor form and, having spent last season on loan at Juventus, appeared destined to return to Serie A this summer, either to the Turin club or Fiorentina.
Dalglish, though, has not entirely written off a player who has made just 26 first team appearamces for the club since arriving from AS Roma for around £18 million in 2009 at the start of Rafa Benitez's last season in charge.
Speaking at a media briefing to present Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam, Stewart Dowing and Alexander Doni, Liverpool's summer signings, Dalglish said: "We have been delighted with him in pre-season and we are delighted to have him as part of the squad."
With Liverpool desperate to recoup as much of their outlay as possible, Dalglish's words should hardly come as a surprise. But the manager is also wise enough to know that at his best, Aquilani is a quality player who could yet come good.
Lita joins Swansea, Routledge expected to follow
Leroy Lita has returned to the Premier League after joining Swansea from Middlesbrough in a deal worth around £1.75 million,
Lita, who scored 12 league goals for Boro last season, will form a new forward partnership with Danny Graham, the Championship leading scorer last season who moved to South Wales from Watford earlier this summer.
Routledge will be charged with providing the forwards with a steady supply of opportunities from either flank when he completes his move from Newcastle. The formalities will be concluded when the winger completes a medical and agree personal terms.
