WHAT IT MEANS:
Swansea's priority remains in the Premier League. But they Brendan Rodgers will be seething at this early exit. He named a strong side that should have had enough to see off Shrewsbury. But the hosts deserved this win to book a third round place for the first time in 18 years.
REACTION:
Brendan Rodgers questioned the attitude of his players:
"We got a shock but perhaps the game was not big enough for a few players. Our mentality cost us.
On the result:
"The best team won. No complaints from us. But the team I fielded was good enough to win this game. We had an international player and last season's top scorer in the Championship."
On priorities:
"Some teams will be pleased they haven't got an extra game, but I wanted a go in these competitions."
Shrewsbury manager Graham Turner hailed his players, claiming they deserved the giant killing:
"My players were fantastic. They worked their socks off from start to finish."
On their win:
"Swansea are a good side but they will know we deserved the win. We made a terrible start but we didn't panic. We kept our heads, worked our way back into the game and were rewarded."
On booking their first third round date in 17 years:
"It's a fine achievement. We can look forward to that, but we won't neglect the league."
