Harry Redknapp's Tottenham side all but secured their place in the Europa League group stage with an emphatic five-goal victory that rendered Hearts' second leg visit to White Hart Lane to be little more than a formality.Rafael van der Vaart started the rout and his early goal was quickly followed by efforts from Jermain Defoe and Jake Livermore as
Spurs found themselves three up after an exhilarating opening half hour.
Hearts finally produced some resistance at the start of the second half but the introduction of Tom Huddlestone restored Spurs' momentum and goals from Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon completed a one side win.
GOALS:
5 mins: Defoe and Van der Vaart exchange passes and the Dutch striker works his way through a flimsy defence with a couple of helpful deflections before sliding the ball home.
13 mins: Lennon cuts in from the left, receives the ball back from Van der Vaart before picking Defoe out with a superb pass. The striker advances into the and slots home left footed.
22 mins: Another razor sharp passing move culminates in an exchange between Defoe and Livermore before the young midfielder finishes with confidence.
64 mins: Huddlestone makes an immediate contribution after being introduced as a substitute, picking out Bale's run beyond the back four and the Wales midfielder rounds the keeper before making it four.
78 mins: Spurs break and Andros Townsend releases Defoe on the left with a superb pass. The striker then finds Lennon with a low cross and the winger guides the ball home side-footed.
OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:
38 mins: Hearts finally conjure an attempt on goal when Ryan Stevenson breaks on the left of the Spurs defence but fires wide.
48 mins: The home side start the second half positively, forcing three corners before Andrew Driver's shot is deflected wide by Stevenson.
