Substitute Ryan Shotton was the hero for Stoke with an 89th-minute strike at The Hawthorns to hand them their first Premier League win of the season and condemn West Brom to a third successive defeat.
Shane Long had the best chance of the the first half when his bullet header was saved superbly at point-blank range by Asmir Begovic on a frustrating afternoon for Roy Hodgson's team, who were unable to convert their dominance into goals.
They were eventually punished by Tony Pulis' team, who qualified for the Europa League group stages with victory over FC Thun on Thursday, when Shotton capitalised on a Ben Foster mistake to snatch all three points.
