Matthew Hatton can hold his head held high despite his WBC light-middleweight title shot ending in defeat as he lost all but one round in a one-sided affair against Mexican sensation Saul Alvarez. The plucky Manchester man realised his step up from welterweight to light-middleweight, albeit a catch-weight in between, was just too much as he was simply overpowered by the far bigger Alvarez.
But there was no shame for the younger of the Hatton siblings as he put on a brave show and refused to be stopped by the Mexican, despite the constant onslaught.
The Mexican dominated from the start and bloodied Hatton's nose with a powerful shot in the second round, but that didn't deter the brave 29-year-old from continuing to press forward.
But Hatton's night got worse when Alvarez opened up a gash over his right eye in the fourth round, forcing him on the back foot away from Alvarez's dangerous left hand.

Even when Alvarez was docked a point in the seventh for hitting after the referee broke the fighters up, Hatton couldn't capitalise to win the round as the Mexican's dominance was enough to draw the three minutes.
It looked as if it was just a matter of time before Alvarez would bring an end to the contest as he pummelled Hatton's body with ferocious body shots.
