Owen Hargreaves Faces Uncertain Future as Time Runs Down on His United Career

Owen Hargreaves, Manchester United v Wolverhampton Wanderers, Premier League, Old Trafford, Manchester November 6, 2011With most of his team-mates off playing international football, Owen Hargreaves has been left to contemplate an increasingly uncertain future during another lonely week on the training ground.

Hargreaves' Manchester United career has been blighted by knee problems that have restricted him to just six minutes of action since September 2008.

Now he has just three months left on his contract and even if he is able to make a fleeting appearance or two before the end of the season, it would be remarkable if he is offered an extended stay at Old Trafford.

Even the cheapest pay-as-you-play deal would not make much sense to either United or Hargreaves, with, seemingly, every avenue exhausted in their attempts to get him back fit.

United supporters are only reminded of his existence by regular injury updates but he has departed the consciousness of most other fans in the country.

In such circumstances, most of other players would just slowly fade away with less attention with each passing comeback.
After all, how many top players have returned to their best after two years on the sidelines?

But because of what we remember about Hargreaves and the fact that he is at United, we continue to wonder whether he can still return despite five appearances over the last three seasons.
