Stuart Holden Out for the Season - a Crushing Blow for Bolton

Stuart Holden in action v Man UnitedStuart Holden may be facing six months on the sidelines with a knee injury but the American midfielder has to be believed when he says he will come back better and stronger for his spell out.

Holden was due for knee surgery in London on Monday after being carried off in Bolton's 1-0 defeat at Manchester United, following a tackle that earned Jonny Evans a red card.

He will miss the rest of the season as well as the Gold Cup campaign with the United States this summer.

In the short term it is a significant blow for Bolton, who have an FA Cup semi-final with Stoke to come in April and also still have plenty to play for in the Premier League.

"First and foremost our main concern is for Stuart and his recovery," Bolton manager Owen Coyle told the club's official website. "He will get all the time and support that he needs.

"Stuart has been outstanding for me this season and he has shown in his performances that he is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

"He has such desire, strength of character and a winning mentality, and he will draw on all those attributes in his rehabilitation."

Bolton have not confirmed the nature of the injury but this is the latest in a long line of misfortune suffered by the talented and likeable midfielder, 25.

His first attempt at cracking English football with Sunderland was wrecked when he was assaulted outside a bar in Newcastle.
