Eoin Morgan Set to Ensure England Overcome the Loss of Kevin Pietersen

Eoin MorganKevin Pietersen's departure from England's World Cup campaign is a devastating blow for the player - but could yet be a blessing in disguise for Andrew Strauss's team.

Pietersen is returning home for a hernia operation just days after England revealed the problem and said he could play through the pain to the end of the tournament.

As the door closes on the 30-year-old and what could be his final chance to win the 50-over world title, Eoin Morgan will join the squad as his replacement.

Morgan is the X-factor England have been crying out for in this tournament and the fact he has recovered from the fractured finger which ruled him out of the original 15-man squad is a huge bonus.

For the last 18 months, Morgan has been the ODI match-winner in England's camp. Not Pietersen.

Pietersen has not managed a century in this form of cricket for 27 innings and has cut an increasingly solitary figure since he was stripped of the ODI captaincy two years ago.

He has constantly been forced to deny suggestions he is ready to retire from the 50-over game, but whatever his public stance has been, his international career is at crossroads in this format.
