Substitute Ryan Shotton struck an injury-time winner as Stoke booked their place in the final round of Europa League qualifying with a hard-earned and heroic victory over Hajduk Split.Shotton netted in the 93rd minute to hand the Potters a 1-0 success in the hostile surroundingss of the Stadion Poljud and a 2-0 aggregate triumph over the Croatians, who will view the defeat as an unmitigated disaster.
The goal came against the run of play after Tony Pulis' team found themselves on the back foot for much of the contest, but their admirably stubborn and resistant defence held firm and they were eventually rewarded for their lung-busting efforts.
A memorable night was completed by the inclusion of former England international Jonathan Woodgate in the starting XI for what was his first competitive outing for the Potters, with the defender producing a quite outstanding performance.
THE HIGHLIGHTS:
5mins: Split began brightly and threatened early on when Marin Tomasov's inswinging corner was headed over by Mario Brkljaca.
