Having dipped into the transfer market in a bid to locate players to score Premier League goals for Swansea, a more pressing problem has now emerged at the other end of the pitch.Manager Brendan Rodgers has signed three attacking players, including breaking their transfer record sign Danny Graham for £3.5million from Watford, as they search for added firepower ahead of their first game following promotion from the Championship.
Scoring goals, rather than conceding them, has long been their problem. But that was before they lost a cornerstone of a defence that has broken the club record number of clean sheets in successive seasons.
The summer exit of goalkeeper Dorus de Vries, who opted to join Wolves on a free transfer after failing to agree a new contract at the Liberty Stadium, sent alarm bells ringing in Wales.
And the fact Rodgers has failed to replace the highly-rated Dutchman will leave a greater cause for concern.
It wasn't just the fact that de Vries was such a commanding and stable figure for Swansea, having missed just six games through injury in four seasons, but there was the added bonus that he is a key component in the way they like to play the game.
Comfortable on the ball, de Vries began many of the Welsh side's moves as he executed his long-range passing out of defence - just like a sweeper would do.
