Arsenal's Interest in Phil Jagielka Sparks Speculation About David Moyes

Arsene Wenger's recruitment policy has never been under such intense scrutiny as he approaches six years without adding to the Arsenal trophy cabinet.

But all the signs are that the notoriously cautious Frenchman is finally going to splash the cash this summer, with a number of targets, particularly defenders, understood to be on his hit-list.

The Daily Mail reports that Arsenal are set to revive their interest in signing Everton and England centre-half Phil Jagielka.

Wenger had an interest in Jagielka last summer, and it is believed Everton rejected a bid from the Gunners of around £10 million. The Mail suggests that an offer of even £15 million was not enough to persuade David Moyes to sell the former Sheffield United defender, despite his club's much publicised financial problems.

Now Wenger is ready to try again for the 28-year-old at the end of the season, in a transfer that could also have serious repercussions for the future of Moyes at Goodison Park.

Moyes has regularly been linked with other clubs, including Aston Villa most recently, but is understood to be settled on Merseyside, despite another excruciatingly frustrating season playing catch-up after a sloppy start.
