Hurricanes, Wolverines Enter National Signing Day With Uncertainty

One of the earliest, and most interesting, things to keep an eye on during today's National Signing Day extravaganza is just how newly-installed coaches have fared in piecing together recruiting classes in a compressed time frame.

Several big-time programs have new coaches on-board, but two places in particular - Coral Gables, Fla., and Ann Arbor, Mich. - are not used to entering a National Signing Day with such uncertainly.

Starting with Miami (Fla.), new Hurricanes coach Al Golden (pictured) had to assume what was already a bleak commitment list when Randy Shannon was shown the door. Since then, the man known as "Golden Al" due to his recruiting prowess as an assistant at Boston College, Penn State and Virginia, made strong inroads toward a respectable class.

Golden entered Wednesday with 15 commitments, and was able to hold onto the commitment of four-star DE Anthony Chickillo (6-3, 226, Tampa, Fla., Alonso HS). However, Chickillo and WR Phillip Dorsett (5-10, 170, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., St. Thomas Aquinas HS) were the only two Hurricanes commitments to stand their ground - which means Golden is looking at a multi-year rebuilding process ahead in South Florida.
