After helping Fulham to last season's Europa League Final and their highest ever Premier League finish, this campaign could not have been more excruciating for Paul Konchesky as he endured a private nightmare at Liverpool.Konchesky was persona non grata at Anfield after following Roy Hodgson from Fulham, and swiftly became the main target for Liverpool's supporters during their period of alarming underachievement, a situation not aided by his own mother!
Hodgson had no choice but to protect the defender by taking him out of the firing line before his own acrimonious exit earlier this year. When Kenny Dalglish arrived for his second coming, it did not take a skilled tactician to ascertain that Konchesky would be deemed even more surplus to requirements.
But now the former England international is rebuilding his career in the East Midlands with Nottingham Forest and could yet end an horrendous season by helping Billy Davies navigate a route back to the big time.
The 29-year-old ended Davies' desperate search for a specialist left-back when he arrived on loan in January and has slotted right in at the City Ground. He even scored his first goal for 17 months in the 2-2 draw with Preston on Tuesday night before a hamstring injury ended his evening prematurely.
It is understood that a deal is in place to make his move to Forest permanent, in a £2 million deal, should the club achieve their goal of promotion. His experience will be vital as Davies attempts to push Forest over the line and make up for the bitter disappointment of last season's play-off failure.
Even if Forest fail in their mission, it is impossible to see Konchesky having any future at Liverpool.

Konchesky has declined any invitation to expand on his nightmare at Anfield, as if he wants to airbrush those forgettable five months out of his mind.
Of course, he may still find himself in the uncomfortable situation of having to return to the club that pays the majority of his wages so his caution is understandable.
But it is difficult to see Dalglish ever deciding to give him a second chance. Especially after Konchesky's mother Carol apparently used social networking site Facebook to launch a fierce, and misguided, attack on the Liverpool supporters who had made her son's life a misery.
