Cocky England. Arrogant England. Think they deserve to win it all England. Sound familiar? It does to Toby Flood, who has attempted to dispel the stereotype by claiming they will face a tough opponent in Italy.Fly half Flood is genuinely apprehensive about facing the Italians at Twickenham and does not spout a glib procession of "there's no easy games in the Six Nations" quotes. He has a real concern because he remembers vividly the way England came away from Rome last year having scraped a dour 17-12 win.
He claims that England were not completely happy with their opening win over Wales last week and with the amount of mistakes made, it is easy to see why. He is careful not to fall into the trap of claiming everything is hunky dory and the Grand Slam is within their grasp after the Millennium Stadium win.
And on England's next opponents Flood said: "Italy will make it as difficult as possible for us at Twickenham. They have quality guys who operate in the French Top 14 and in our Premiership - the likes of Sergio Parisse, Marco Bergamasco, Gonzalo Canale, Andrea Lo Cicero and my Leicester team-mate Martin Castrogiovanni."
Flood added last year's win over Italy was a "real low point" that proved to be the starting point for the more open brand of rugby fans have witnessed since last summer.
