Well that didn't take long. After playing just two games in his return to the NHL, Colorado Avalanche forward Peter Forsberg is going to announce his retirement from the league on Monday afternoon. He averaged just over 17 minutes of ice time in his return and recorded zero points in the two contests, both of which were losses for a Colorado team that has lost eight in a row and is quickly losing ground in the Western Conference postseason race. Currently 10 points out of the eighth and final playoff spot, the Avalanche are occupying the 14th spot in the West needing to jump over six teams in the final two months of the season to get into a playoff position.
Out of the league for three years, and spending the past two seasons playing in his native Sweden, Forsberg started practicing with Colorado a couple of weeks ago before officially signing a contract with the club he had previously won two Stanley Cups and an MVP award with. He's also a highly decorated international player, winning Gold Medals in two Olympic games (1994 and 2006), as well as numerous medals at the World Championships.
