Calgary Flames' Big Line Finally Producing

CALGARY -- Part of former Calgary Flames' GM Darryl Sutter's undoing came about because of some rather dubious signings he orchestrated over the years.

None caused more shaking of heads than the inking of Olli Jokinen and Alex Tanguay -- both former Flames -- on July 1, 2010. Why, asked the hockey world, would Sutter pay for a couple of underachieving individuals whom he shipped out a year ago, (Jokinen) and three years ago (Tanguay)?

As two-thirds of Calgary's top line, the pair is attempting to prove that there was method to Sutter's madness after all
.
With their linemate Jarome Iginla leading the team in scoring with 35 points, left wing Tanguay is next with 30, while Jokinen has amassed 10 points in his last 10 games for a total of 20.

On an NHL club starved for offense, this is one trio that is pulling its weight.

"I don't think it's a comfort level; I think it's more desperation,'' suggested Tanguay, who at 31 is the "baby" of the line. "It's a situation that we're in right now as a team; everyone has to produce and contribute more. We're getting chances, but we're not scoring at the rate we think we can.''

His 30 points are seven less than he had in 80 games with Tampa Bay last year.
