US Open Round-Up: Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams Reach Quarter-Finals

Novak DjokovicWorld No. 1 Novak Djokovic reached the US Open quarter-finals at the expense of Alexandr Dolgopolov in a match which will be remembered for an extraordinary first set tie-break.

Djokovic saved four set points against the Ukrainian in the thrilling tie-break along the way to a 7-6 (14) 6-4 6-2 victory.

Top seed Djokovic now meets Serbian compatriot Janko Tipsarevic, who defeated Spain's Juan Carlos Ferrero 7-5 6-7 (3) 7-5 6-2, in the last eight.

Third seed Roger Federer faces Juan Monaco in Monday's overnight clash.

In the women's draw, Serena Williams was too strong for Serbian's Ana Ivanovic as she reached the Flushing Meadows quarter-finals.

The American three-time champion was a 6-3 6-4 victor and will now face Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova after the Russian overcame Italian seventh seed Francesca Schiavone 5-7 6-3 6-4.

Caroline Wozniacki, the world No. 1, battles 15th seed and former champion Svetlana Kuznetsova overnight.

REACTION:
Ivanovic admitted she always faced a mammoth task:

"My serve broke down a little more than hers. I still created lots of opportunities and I felt I was stepping up a lot and I just felt that was the biggest difference.

"As I said even before the match, I think she's the favourite for the tournament."
