Victories for Andy Murray and James Ward left Great Britain on the verge of defeating Hungary in their Europe/Africa Group Two Davis Cup third round tie.
World No. 4 Murray, who reached the semi-finals of the US Open last week, claimed a 6-0 6-2 7-6 (3) triumph over part-time opponent Sebo Kiss in front of his Scottish natives at Glasgow's Braehead Arena.
It came after British No. 2 Ward secured a brave 6-4 6-4 4-6 6-4 success at the expense of Attila Balazs despite being sick during their match.
Britain are now firmly in charge of the tie and victory in Saturday's doubles would earn them promotion to Europe/Africa Group One.
That responsibility will fall on the shoulders of Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins, who face Balazs and Kornel Bardoczky on Saturday ahead of Sunday's reverse singles.
The British pair can take heart from an encouraging run at the US Open last week, where they reached the last eight, matching their performance at Wimbledon.
