It is never a slow day at the Robert Garcia Boxing Academy or with the friends of the trainer himself, Robert Garcia, who works with a number of top notch fighters.
On Feb. 19 at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas, Garcia will be in the corner of an HBO-televised clash that will be promoted by Top Rank Promotions featuring Garcia's WBA interim super flyweight (115 pounds) titlist Nonito Donaire (25-1, 17 knockouts) and WBO and WBC bantamweight (118 pounds) king Fernando Montiel (44-2-2, 34 KOs).
On March 26, Garcia will be in the corner of Donaire's promotional stablemate, Brandon Rios (26-0-1, 19 KOs).
The 24-year-old Rios is coming off of a Nov. 13, fourth-round knockout of Omri Lowther (14-3, 10 KOs) that was contested at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium, and is in line for a Showtime televised, Feb. 26 appearance opposite 32-year-old WBA king Miguel Acosta (28-3, 22 KOs), who has a 19-fight winning streak the includes 12 knockouts, and stoppages in his previous three bouts.
Garcia also has worked the corner of ex-welterweight (147 pounds) king Antonio Margarito, former featherweight (126 pounds) champ Steven Luevano, his own younger brother, unbeaten featherweight contender Miguel "Mikey" Garcia, former light flyweight (108 pounds) belt-holder Brian Viloria, and former female fighter Mia St. John.
