So, imagine you're Jeff Maehl. You came north to Oregon a few years ago, an under-recruited defensive back from a small northern California town.
By the end of your first season, you're not a safety anymore, but a wide receiver in one of the nation's most exciting offenses and you are playing on the winning side in the Sun Bowl.
At the end of your sophomore year, you get a nice trip to San Diego for the Holiday Bowl and another win.
Your junior year ends with a Pac-10 title and a trip to Pasadena for the Rose Bowl, Oregon's first trip there in since 1995.
And now this. An undefeated season, another Pac-10 title, and No. 1 ranking for most of the season and a shot at the BCS title.
Maehl, the 6-foot-1, 184-pound senior from Paradise, will close what might be considered a surprisingly successful college career in the national championship game. His final minutes as a college football player will tick off on the biggest stage in college sports.
So, really, it's gone pretty well.
